Disney Pulls Jonathan Majors’ Amateur Bodybuilding Film ‘Magazine Dreams’ For Release Schedule

Disney Pulls Jonathan Majors' Amateur Bodybuilding Film 'Magazine Dreams' For Release Schedule

Jonathan Majors’ upcoming film “Magazine Dreams” has been pulled from Disney’s release schedule. The movie, in which Majors stars as an amateur bodybuilder striving for success in the world of bodybuilding, had originally been set for a December 8, 2023 premiere. However, due to Majors’ legal issues, specifically assault and harassment allegations stemming from a domestic dispute with his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, Disney has chosen to remove the film from its calendar.

Majors has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges, and his trial is scheduled to begin on November 29, 2023, in New York. The film had already made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year, receiving mostly positive reviews. “Magazine Dreams” was seen as a potential Oscar contender for Majors, who delivered a powerful and emotional performance in the movie.

The film was directed by Elijah Bynum and also features Taylour Paige, Haley Bennett, Mike O’Hearn, Harrison Page, and Harriet Sansom Harris in the cast. Notably, Jonathan Majors served as an executive producer for the film under his production banner, Tall Street Productions.

Despite the film’s positive reception, some had questioned its potential popular appeal, given its focus on the story of a determined bodybuilder’s descent into the abyss. Disney’s decision to remove “Magazine Dreams” from the release calendar comes amid an ongoing Hollywood actors strike, which has caused disruptions in the industry, including delayed film productions and releases.

Due to the strike, other Disney film release dates have also been pushed back. Notably, the live-action “Snow White,” starring Rachel Zegler as the titular princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. It was originally slated for March 22, 2024, but will now premiere on March 21, 2025.

Similarly, the Pixar animated film “Elio” was initially set to hit theaters on March 1, 2024, but it has been rescheduled to release on June 13, 2025. “Elio” features the voices of America Ferrera, Jameela Jamil, and Brad Garrett and revolves around the story of a young boy chosen to become Earth’s ambassador to an alien civilization.

In addition to these changes, another untitled Disney movie was postponed from its original release date of February 14, 2024, to April 5, 2024. Furthermore, two other untitled Disney and Pixar projects, originally set for release on March 21, 2025, and June 13, 2025, respectively, have been removed from the schedule.

These adjustments in release dates come amid an ongoing Hollywood actors strike, which has disrupted various film productions and schedules. Studios, including Disney, have been forced to make changes to accommodate the evolving situation in the entertainment industry.
